New York lays out $200 million solar incentive plan favoring brownfields, landfills and rooftops

The state energy authority split the money by project size, will pay on completion and adds bonuses for carports, brownfields, landfills, floating arrays and solar paired with farming.

Solar developers in New York, and the owners of brownfields, closed landfills, parking lots and apartment roofs who lease space to them, now know how the state intends to spend its next round of solar incentive money. On October 14, 2026, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (“NYSERDA”) announced a framework for deploying $200 million from the State’s Sustainable Future Program through its NY-Sun incentive program, funding that the announcement says Governor Hochul announced as part of the Fiscal Year 2027 Enacted Budget.
