Federal: New York grid operator has until November 16 to file data center connection rules
Federal energy regulators paused their challenge to New York's grid rules for loads of 50 megawatts or more, giving the grid operator and utilities 90 days to propose revisions on cost, co-location and flexible service.
For developers of data centers and other facilities drawing 50 megawatts or more, the federal terms for connecting to New York's high-voltage grid are being rewritten, with a proposal expected by November 16, 2026. This is a federal action: on August 14, 2026, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”), which regulates interstate electricity transmission, granted motions by the New York Independent System Operator (“NYISO”), the New York Transmission Owners and the Non-Incumbent Transmission Owners to hold in abeyance for 90 days the show cause proceeding it opened on June 18, 2026.
