Pennsylvania regulators examine who pays for data center grid costs; panel applications due October 14

The Public Utility Commission will hold a November 17 technical conference on allocating costs caused by data centers and other large loads, with written comments due November 13 and December 18.

Data center developers seeking electric service in Pennsylvania now have a dated opportunity to shape how much of the grid costs they cause will be billed to them rather than to other customers. On September 22, 2026, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (the “PUC”), which regulates electric utilities' rates and service, issued notice of a Technical Conference on Large Computational Load Cost Allocation, Docket No. M-2026-3065062, to be held November 17, 2026 in Harrisburg.
