New York approves 90-mile underground power line linking Long Island to Westchester; construction plans pending

The Public Service Commission adopted the settlement for the Propel NY Energy Project on September 17, 2026, but construction waits on approval of phased construction plans.

Property owners, utilities and builders along Long Island and Westchester road corridors now face years of underground cable work on a route the State has approved. On September 17, 2026, the Public Service Commission, the State's utility regulator, approved the joint proposal, a negotiated settlement of the certificate terms, for the Propel NY Energy Project, Case 24-T-0446, in a proceeding under N.Y. Pub. Serv. Law art. VII, finding that the settlement meets the applicable legal standards and that the project is needed to maintain and enhance reliability in New York City and on Long Island.
