New Jersey court approval fixes cleanup funding rules at four former DuPont chemical plants

A federal judge approved New Jersey's PFAS settlement with DuPont, Chemours and Corteva, starting the clock on cleanup financial assurance at Chambers Works, Parlin, Pompton Lakes and Repauno.

Buyers, lenders and neighbors of four of New Jersey's largest legacy chemical plants now have a court-approved framework for how cleanup there will be paid for and secured. On August 7, 2026, Chief Judge Renee Marie Bumb of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey approved the State's settlement with EIDP, Inc. (formerly E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company), The Chemours Company, DuPont de Nemours, Inc., Corteva, Inc. and related companies, and a separate settlement with 3M, in N.J. Dep't of Env't Prot. v. E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., No. 1:19-cv-14758 (D.N.J.), as reported by Reuters. Corteva's filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission confirms that the court held a hearing in June 2026 and “issued its final approval in August 2026.”
