New Jersey seeks comment by October 16 on new state approval of utility transmission upgrades

Under a law signed July 7, 2026, utilities must obtain a Board of Public Utilities certificate for supplemental transmission projects. The Board's September 2026 notice asks for information by 5 p.m. on October 16, 2026, and rules are due about 270 days after enactment.

On a notice dated in September 2026 at Docket No. QO26090528, the Board of Public Utilities ("BPU") announced a request for information and a stakeholder meeting on implementing the Advanced Grid Technologies Act, which the notice says was enacted on July 7, 2026. The Act requires the Board to adopt rules creating an application and review process for certificates of public convenience and necessity for supplemental transmission projects, and grid performance benchmarks. Written responses are due by 5 p.m. on October 16, 2026.

BPU Docket No. QO26090528; Advanced Grid Technologies Act (S4411/A5188, 2026 session), approved July 7, 2026
