Connecticut proposes ending federal hazardous waste cleanup oversight at former GE Bridgeport plant, with building limits
State regulators tentatively find cleanup complete on 30.2 acres at 1285 Boston Avenue, relying on a recorded land-use restriction instead of a permit; comments are due November 12, 2026.
Thirty acres of a former General Electric manufacturing campus in Bridgeport are moving toward release from federal hazardous waste cleanup oversight, with recorded limits on digging and building that any later owner would inherit. On September 28, 2026, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (“DEEP”) published a tentative determination that corrective action is complete, with institutional controls, at the 30.2-acre portion of General Electric Company's facility at 1285 Boston Avenue (EPA ID No. CTD001453711), and that neither an operating permit nor a post-closure permit is required under Conn. Gen. Stat. § 22a-449(c) and R.C.S.A. §§ 22a-449(c)-100 through 119.
